Clevedon Utd girls U’11’s welcomed Ashton girls to Hazell Close on Sunday. Clevedon were slow out of the blocks, and in less than 3 minutes Ashton took a deserved lead. Ashton continued to threaten the Clevedon goal during this period, but strong defending from Edie and Shae, plus some confident goalkeeping from Hope ensured the score was kept to 1-0. On 7 minutes, Harper pounced on a free-kick from Maddie, and lashed to ball into the top corner. The tide had now turned, and with many good chances going begging, it took Evie to score and settle the nerves of the Clevedon girls. Ashton were not disheartened, and the equaliser came in the 37th minute. Both teams were saved by the woodwork, with one finger tip save from Hope crashing off the post. Clevedon were now in control of a very good Ashton team, and on the rare times that Ashton attacked, Macey, Samantha, and Phoebe stood strong. In a dominant last 10 minutes Clevedon scored some cracking goals through Maddie (2) and Ella. Cassidy continues to shine, tacking corners left and right footed perfectly, and Ruby is a player that understands her role as centre forward. Player of the match was awarded to Maddie, but this was a great team performance, and a fantastic game by two very good teams. Clevedon would like to express their gratitude to Benchmark Project Management (UK) Limited, for sponsoring the girls kit.
